Musical Director
Cathy Lagrimas has been a teacher in the Hawaii Department of Education for the last 18 years. Being a Band Director for 16 years, Cathy’s teaching philosophy is to build a community of successful members of society through music & the arts. Starting with piano at the age of 10, followed by the french horn in intermediate school, she rose through the ranks as one of the top instrumentalists in the state of Hawaii as a member of the Pearl City High School "Charger" Band and the Hawaii Youth Symphony I.
As a music education major at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Cathy expanded her musical chops as a vocalist with the university’s prestigious Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. Karen Kennedy and Hawaiian Chorus with Ms. Nola Nahulu, Director of Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus. During her university career, she was a substitute french horn musician with the Royal Hawaiian Band and Lead vocal & piano instructor at Hawaii MusicWorks. She began her musical theatre career as part of the pit orchestra, which include: "Fiddler of the Roof," "My Fair Lady," "State Fair," and New Hope Christian Fellowship's "Two From Galilee."
In 2016, Cathy was nominated for a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Rock Album of the Year, as a member of the rock/reggae/ska band PIMPBOT, playing trumpet, keyboards, auxiliary percussion, and background vocals.
